Long-term Employment Visa D
This type of employment requires signing a labor contract with a minimum duration of one year and a maximum of three years. During this process, workers from third countries receive a work permit and a residence card for the Republic of Bulgaria for the period they have an active labor contract, but no more than 3 years. Upon expiration, and with mutual agreement from both parties, the contract and the employee's stay can be extended.
The Process
Document Preparation
The package includes:
- Criminal record certificate with apostille
- Declaration of address for the foreigner
- Labor contract
- Diploma for specific qualifications (if required by the position)
- Other necessary documents
Employment Agency Review
The complete set of documents is reviewed by the Employment Agency, which within approximately 2 months issues an opinion on whether the foreigner receives access to the Bulgarian labor market - in other words, a work permit.
Visa D Application
Based on a positive opinion, non-EU citizens can apply for a Visa D at the Bulgarian Embassy in their respective country, for which an interview appointment must be scheduled.
As of March 31, 2024, the Republic of Bulgaria now issues unified Schengen visas valid for the entire Schengen area.
After Arrival
After landing at Sofia Airport, within one week, the foreigner must visit the Migration Office accompanied by a company employee to submit documents for issuing an ID card and residence permit. After these documents are issued, they can be registered with the National Revenue Agency and start working.
